Tell me about yourself. You will be asked a vague question such as this in order to test your ability to think on your feet and to pick out the relevant information. The best thing to do is to just outline a few of your strong points and accomplishments, rounding off with a quick summary. If you get stuck, consider how your best friend would describe you.

What qualifies you for this job? Start with your biggest achievement and follow this up with a fluent and succinct description of your professional background.

Why do you want to work for this company? This is where you need to prove that you have done your research. Explain all of the positive things you have found out about the company and how you would fit in well into such an environment.

Why do you wish to leave your current job? Never be negative and steer clear of mentioning money as a factor. If you are unsure as to what to say it may be a good idea to explain that you are looking for greater responsibilities/challenges or that you feel your talents are being under-used.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years time? Undercover Recruiter suggests answering this one with something along the lines of ‘I would hope that by then my hard work and enthusiasm would have led to increased recognition and responsibility within the organisation’.
